Welcome to the world of blogs, the media of the future!
If you are reading this, you are probably familiar with the term "blog," but some recap on the origins, history, types and significance of blogging may be in order.
Blogs are one of the newest and most convenient ways to share news, information and ideas on the Internet in a matter of moments. The term is derived from “weblog.†It is a website where, thanks to specialized content management systems (CMS), the owner (and sometimes other editors) can post new material in a very quick, user-friendly and hassle-free way.
While blogs first developed in the mid- to late 1990s as text-based online diaries of sorts, their popularity quickly increased and people found various uses for them, including personal, professional, and public, leading to the development of specialized blogs (e.g. political blogs, travel blogs, entertainment blogs, etc.) and blogs that started incorporating other forms of media, particularly photos and videos besides their textual content (these came to be known as "photoblogs" or "phlogs," and "videoblogs" or "vlogs," respectively).
Many people today have even taken to full time blogging, and some bloggers have received significant attention from the "mainstream media" for their role in shaping and delivering news and information, uncovering facts with which perhaps other media outlets would not have bothered, and shedding light on previously unexamined aspects of politics, economics, and many other subjects.
If you want to create a blog, perhaps even having a full time blog to which you are willing to dedicate a lot of time and effort, you will find some useful information here about different kinds of blogs, the concept of the "blogosphere," the importance of blogs in media and journalism, and free blog hosting options for you to consider.
